BROKE BUDDIES
Terms of Service
The rules for using Broke Buddies, sharing expense records and managing your subscription.
Effective and last updated: November 6, 2026
1. About these terms
These Terms of Service govern your use of Broke Buddies at brokebuddies.com and its installable web app (the “Service”). In these terms, “we,” “us” and “our” refer to the operator of Broke Buddies. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Our Privacy Policy explains how personal information is handled. Contact us about these terms at support@brokebuddies.com.
2. Accounts and eligibility
You must be legally able to enter into this agreement under the laws that apply to you. If you need a parent or guardian’s authorization, obtain it before using the Service. Provide accurate account information, safeguard your sign-in details and notify us if you suspect unauthorized access. Do not impersonate anyone or share access to another person’s account.
Each group member needs their own account. You are responsible for activity through your account, except to the extent caused by our failure to meet a legal obligation. You may not use the Service where doing so would violate applicable law.
3. Shared records, not money transfers
Broke Buddies records expenses, allocated shares, balances and payments reported by users. It is not a bank, payment-transfer service, debt collector or provider of financial, tax or legal advice. Recording a settlement does not send money. Pay outside the app and record only payments that actually occurred.
Members can enter expenses and record payments affecting shared balances. Entries are not independently verified by us or automatically approved by every affected member. Review the payer, participants, amount, currency and split with your group. You are responsible for having permission to record and share information about others, and for resolving disputed entries with them. The app does not establish that a debt is legally enforceable.
Balances are kept separately by currency. Display conversions, receipt recognition and budget projections are estimates or automated outputs: check them before relying on them. Offline information may be out of date; reconnect before saving changes.
4. Free and Pro access
Free currently allows 100 successfully created expenses per person per UTC calendar month across all groups, with no daily cap, and 25 MB of saved bill files. Deleting an expense does not restore the allowance. Expenses other people add do not use your allowance.
Pro has no monthly expense cap and includes 1 GB of bill file storage and premium tools. Each person needs their own effective Pro access for premium actions; another group member’s subscription does not cover you. Storage and per-file limits still apply. When Pro ends, existing shared history and settlement plans remain readable; premium actions become unavailable, and new uploads must fit your current allowance.
New signups receive one seven-day Pro trial after email confirmation. No card is required, no paid subscription is created automatically and the trial ends without charges. Choosing a paid plan is a separate purchase and starts billing at checkout.
5. Prices, renewal and cancellation
Standard Pro prices are $3.99 USD per month or $29.99 USD per year, per person, before applicable tax. The current introductory offer bills $1.99 USD monthly or $14.99 USD yearly before tax.
Limited-time introductory offer for new subscriptions. Keep 50% off every renewal while continuously subscribed, including monthly/yearly switches. Existing subscriptions are unchanged. Canceling and starting again after the offer ends loses the discount. USD per person, before tax; Stripe rounds discounts to whole cents.
Stripe processes subscription payments. By purchasing, you authorize recurring charges at the price and interval disclosed at checkout until canceled. Paid access is activated after payment verification. A subscription status alone does not guarantee paid coverage if a payment fails or requires action.
Use Pro → Manage billing to cancel, update your payment method or view invoices. Cancellation stops renewal and preserves access through the paid coverage end date. Monthly/yearly plan changes take effect at renewal rather than immediately. Signing out, removing the home-screen icon, requesting account deletion or having an account blocked does not by itself cancel billing; cancel separately or contact support if you cannot access billing.
Cancellation does not itself request or guarantee a refund. Contact support about mistaken charges, refund requests or billing disputes; mandatory refund and consumer rights under applicable law are unaffected. Any future price or material subscription change will be communicated as required by law before it applies.
6. Referral and complimentary access
A qualifying new friend who signs up through your referral link earns you one free Pro month after three verified, positive monthly payments in distinct billing periods or one verified, positive yearly payment. Signup, a trial or complimentary access alone does not qualify. There is one reward per referred friend; an early administrator award uses the same reward, not an additional one.
Rewards provide time-based access, not cash, and extend coverage after existing paid coverage and rewards. Complimentary grants are not paid subscriptions and do not auto-renew; they may be revoked. Do not create fake accounts, refer yourself or manipulate payments or referral attribution. We may withhold or correct access obtained through fraud or error, subject to applicable law. Account displays the status and dates of your coverage.
7. Acceptable use and your content
Do not submit fabricated bills or payments, harass others, upload unlawful content, infringe intellectual-property or privacy rights, distribute malware, bypass access or usage limits, scrape private data, or interfere with the Service. Do not upload full card numbers, passwords, recovery links or information you have no right to share.
You retain your rights in content you provide. You grant us a non-exclusive license to host, store, process and display it only as needed to operate, maintain and secure the Service, including sharing it with authorized group members and providers that perform those functions. You must have the necessary rights and permissions for that content.
Our branding, software and other Service materials belong to us or our licensors. These terms permit use of the Service, not resale or unauthorized copying of those materials.
8. Optional assistants and third parties
Pro members may approve compatible assistant connections. Current assistant tools are read-only and check your account and group permissions; they cannot add expenses, record or transfer payments, or send messages. Only approve assistants you trust. Information supplied to an assistant is also subject to that provider’s terms and privacy practices. Contact support for help withdrawing a connection if your assistant does not provide that control.
External sign-in, payment and other services have their own terms. We do not control their availability or practices.
9. Deletion, suspension and termination
Group deletion affects all members. The creator may delete eligible empty or settled groups subject to financial-history and attachment safeguards. Fully settled groups inactive for one year are eligible for daily automatic deletion unless a member enables “Keep this group”; active repeating bills prevent that cleanup. Save records you need before deletion. The keep setting does not prevent an eligible creator from deleting a group manually.
Contact support to request account closure or deletion of personal information. Shared financial records and legally required billing or security records may need to be retained or de-identified as explained in our Privacy Policy. Removing an account does not forgive an obligation between group members.
We may restrict or suspend access where necessary to address abuse, fraud, security risks, legal requirements or material breach of these terms. Where practicable and legally permitted, we will explain the restriction and allow you to contact support. Restrictions do not automatically cancel subscriptions; contact support for billing assistance if needed.
10. Availability and responsibility
To the extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of uninterrupted availability, error-free operation or fitness for a particular purpose. We use safeguards but cannot guarantee that every user entry, automated result or security measure will be correct or that all data loss can be prevented. Maintain copies of important records and report problems.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, or disputes and losses caused by inaccurate user records, external payments or unauthorized third-party conduct. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable statutory consumer rights or liability for fraud or intentional misconduct.
11. Changes and resolving concerns
We may update these terms and will identify the effective date. For material changes, we will provide notice through the Service or another appropriate channel when required. Changes do not retroactively remove rights you already have under applicable law. If you disagree, stop using the Service and cancel any subscription before its next renewal.
Contact support@brokebuddies.com first so we can try to resolve a concern. These terms do not require binding arbitration or waive rights to courts, regulators or remedies available under applicable law. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
